Learning Japanese

What I will be doing in Japan

What will I be doing in Japan?

I am going on a study abroad program with Green River Community College. I will be taking classes in: creative writing, digital photography, Japanese language and the culture and history of Japan! I have 9 weeks of classes with field trips every Wednesday and one week on my own to tour around Japan. I will also have the weekends to explore Tokyo and neighboring areas to the university in Hachioji.

Why am I going to Japan?
I am going to Japan to be a stranger in a strange land;
To challenge my perceptions, to challenge who I am.
I want to learn how to see things differently and
how to be differently.
I want to be alonish to get to know me.
I want to be brave, independent, open to possibilities, and try new things without worrying about failing, at least some of the time.
I want to remember just how lucky I am to have family, friends, and students who care about me.
I want to enjoy and delight in the everyday experiences.
I love to travel, I love to go to school,
I love to meet and know new people!
I can’t wait to hear Japanese surrounding me and not understand anything.
I can’t wait to absorb new imagery and ways of artistic expression.
I can’t wait to experience the unfamiliar.
I look forward to being lost, alone, and awkward.
But most of all I look forward to the beauty I will seek out and find in Japan.
